Romero slams Spurs board for poor performance
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has slammed the club’s board, saying they are directly responsible for the team’s current poor performances, having failed to support them in the transfer market.
For Spurs, they are having a slump in form in the Premier League. Losing 3-4 to Chelsea in their last match, despite leading 2-0 last weekend. They have won only one of their last seven matches, and are in 11th place in the table.
Speaking to Spanish television after the ufabet https://ufabet999.app game, Romero said: “When you look at other teams, Manchester City can challenge for the title every year. Liverpool have strengthened, Chelsea have strengthened. When they don’t do well they add more players and now they are doing more consistently. That’s what we should do. You have to know where the mistakes are. I hope the board understands that.”
In the summer transfer window, Spurs splashed out a club record £65m to sign Dominic Solanke, while a further £60m was spent on youngsters Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Lucas Bergwall, who are yet to make a first-team debut.
Romero continued that the past 2-3 years have been the same situation. Starting with changing players, then changing the coaching staff. While the same people are the ones who should be held accountable. Hopefully they (the board) will finally know who is responsible for this. So that we can move forward because Spurs is a beautiful team and with the structure we have. We should be able to compete for the championship every year.
For current Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, whose current situation is not good at the moment. It is the fifth manager, both permanent and caretaker, that Romero has worked with since joining Spurs in 2021, with the club having not won a trophy since 2008.
